Great book, but you might need an attorney anyway.

I found this book very useful, but would caution readers that estate taxes and estate laws in various states are moving targets, so you need to be careful to buy the latest update of this book and also visit their online website to confirm you have the most current information possible. Also, if your personal family situation is complex (e.g. second marriage, out of state real estate, such as a rental property or vacation home, or if you own one or more businesses, or have a spouse who is not a U.S. citizen), it would behoove you to use this text to draft the trust (to save money on that part of the process--most attorneys use "boilerplate" anyway, so why pay $250 per hour for that), then pay their hourly rate for a qualified estate planning attorney to review your trust for mistakes or specific language you need to include to cover these specific situations. For example, a common problem that can occur is that you name your trust as the beneficiary of an IRA, but your trust does not include the specific language the IRS and custodian of the IRA need to see in order to "pass through" the IRA to beneficiary IRAs. When this happens, the Inherited IRA can be taxed at the tax bracket of the Trust (instead of the beneficiaries which might be lower), and the IRA must be emptied by the fifth year after the death of the owner. Finally, if you do decide to use an estate planning attorney, be sure to ask them what % of their time is spend on this type of law. Many family lawyers and other lawyers dabble in estate planning. You have too much at stake. Look for an attorney for which this is at least 50% of their business.

DO IT NOW !

I've been using Nolo (Press) products for over twenty-five years. I've given them as gifts and a 'starting point kick in the butt' for friends, family and clients. You can not imagine the problems you and your family will have without a will and / or trust. Yeah, yeah I know, "your dead so whaddaya care". Well, sometimes ya don't die and dying ain't the worst of it. Incapacitation is. No matter what you accomplish in life your inability to manage your own self interest will be what you're remembered for. You may not believe you've nothing to leave or give but you do. You have dignity, love, care, dreams, and all the things that make you you. Do not leave that to strangers who do not care for you or a corrupt probate system.

Great Resource Whether Making Your Own, Or Hiring Somone

I'm a kind of person that likes to do things myself when I can, but was on the border between just hiring someone to create a trust for me, or to do it on my own. I first went to go talk to a professional lawyer that specializes in Trusts. He was great. The price was high, but that was to be expected. He gave me a lot of information which I appreciated, but decided to learn more about it on my own anyway. I got this book to read on an upcoming trip at the time and am so glad that I did. I hate spending money on useless things or things that you can find free on the internet. But I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to make a Trust him/herself, OR wants and has the time to understand how a Trust works before hiring someone else to do it. My parents hired someone to write their trust...shelled out a ton of money at the time...and it's pretty much crap (I hate to say). It works, but is the most generic thing ever. It's very easy for lawyers to say a lot of fancy things and give you a Trust and you don't even really know if it's "good" or not because you only know what they tell you. So if you plan on hiring someone to write your Trust, I really recommend doing some research (such as buying this book, which is great), or browsing around online. Bonus is that it's also a very interesting topic with a good writer. Very easy to follow for novices, and full of information for people even relatively knowledgeable about the topic.

Another great book from Brenda Harlen

Another great book from Brenda Harlen! Avery and Justin work as Drs. in the same hospital and have been fighting an attraction for 3 years. Finally after working New Years Eve together they give into that attraction and a baby is the result. Avery doesn't trust Justin because he is known as Dr. Romeo at the hospital and she doesn't want to have a relationship with a dr. due to her childhood having two parents as drs. Justin warms to the idea of being a daddy and wants to marry Avery. She is stubborn but Justin does not give up. I love that he was somewhat of a player but there were really no women in the book that caused them any issues. I felt the issues they had were more in line with real life. Justin did some really sweet things for Avery making this story a romantic, sexy (they had great chemistry) fun read. Of course loved hearing about the past Garretts and meeting new characters. Mainly Avery's brother! This is a great series I would highly recommend!

Better Than Grey's Anatomy!

The best thing about the Those Engaging Garretts series is that you can pick up anywhere and not feel lost. Each couple has their own story to tell and the rest is woven in subtly but efficiently.
Avery and Justin are well-developed characters right from the start. Harlen made it very easy to see how their simmering attraction could lead to a moment of wild abandon ... and a baby. The pacing of their relationship was perfect for their personalities.
The hospital setting reminded me of why I fell in love with Grey's Anatomy (McDreamy/Wall-Ice). Loved the gossip and the jealous nurse.
I love the contrast of their families' support. I got a huge kick from the epilogue - the most unique out of any book I've read.
There are so many Garretts and in-laws in this family that I look forward to meeting them all.

Garrett playboy has met his match!

Another great Garrett story! I have been waiting for Justin's story and Brenda did not disappoint. Justin is an ER doctor and Avery is a Obstetrician and they have worked together for three years. Justin has the reputation of being a playboy, with gossip about him everywhere. Avery has avoided his flirtation and isn't interested, or so she says. New Years Eve, they are both working and it's a long night for both of them, when he catches her in a moment, and pulls her into the supply closet and they have sex without protection. She tends to ignore him after that, even though he tries to see her again. Avery had a bad experience with her former fiancee and doesn't trust men easily, plus she doesn't want another doctor, because both parents are doctors, and paid more attention to their careers than to their kids or each other, leading to a split. Avery soon finds out she is pregnant. Justin is shocked, but wants to marry her. She says no. He has an uphill battle getting her to believe he is interested in her only her and for herself. She fights it tooth and nail, but when she goes to tell her parents about the baby, her mom tells her to get rid of it, and she calls Justin, he drops everything to go to her in Atlanta. She starts to realize he is for real. He goes with her to see her dad, which goes much better. After a scare of a possible miscarriage, Avery moves in with Justin so he could watch after her, she stays five months! Then someone says something to her that has her running scared of the relationship they are building and moves back home. Justin gives her some time then professes his love in a very public way. She moves back in, but doesn't want to get married right away. Guess when she does, yep, the day the baby is coming! LOVE LOVE LOVE this series! Can't wait for Ryder's (Avery's brother) story coming next.

Important information that every women needs to know...

Ms. Bonnie Kaye's Man Readers is a book that every woman in the world needs to read whether you are single, dating, or married to a man. Ms. Kaye addresses the need for women to nurture their own self-esteem and sexual esteem. She explains why a woman's need for sexual fulfillment is a vital and necessary part of a woman's emotional and spiritual health. Women are so good at sacrificing their own sexual satisfaction in order to maintain a relationship with a sexually or emotionally dysfunctional man.

The growing number of married/attached men that are posting in online chat rooms and forums that are openly seeking sexual relationships with women and/or men has been disturbing and disheartening to me as a woman. How does a woman protect herself when the man in her life has a secret life? I really feel for the wives of these men, and I began to wonder if they are as unknowing as their husbands' claim they are. Right now on several forums are threads posted by men entitled: "Happily married but bi-curious" or "married man seeking another married man for sexual fun...." These men discuss how much it "sucks to have to hide their desires from their wives" or "if my wife knew I was posting here she would kill me...." I worry about the happiness and sexual well-being of these women trapped in lives with men who are obsessed with hooking up with other men. How do women--single and married--protect themselves from these dishonest men?

I want to assert that I do not have any problems with gays and lesbians. I admire their courage to live openly in a society that can and does penalize them for being honest enough to be exactly whoever they are. What I do have a problem with are men that cheat--whether it is with men or women.

Ms. Kaye profiles not only gay/bisexual men that are married, but other types of dysfunctional men that prey upon women with low self-esteem. Also, she outlines how to spot if your man is cheating and ways to track his cyber life. Through 30 plus years of experience counseling women in toxic relationships, she has learned what works in terms of therapy, and how a woman can free herself from a dysfunctional marriage. This is not a book that bashes men. It acknowledges that there are many wonderfully, emotionally and sexually healthy men out in the world that are waiting to meet you--the woman you were always meant to be. However it won't happen as long as you are trapped in a living a lie. If you suspect your man is cheating, read this book, arm yourself with the knowledge to protect yourself, and find the courage to step out in the world. I believe in the courage and resiliency of my fellow womankind. Take care of yourself and remember that you are not alone.

Another great book from Bonnie!

I love this book. Bonnie has a kind and loving heart for women like me who were faced with the unexpected turn of events of finding out their husband was secretly leading life as a gay man while living a lie as a heterosexual husband. Bonnie does not bash men, or anyone for that matter. She provides strength, insight, love and support to so many women at a difficult time and gives them courage to be strong as they rebuild their lives. I am a strong again because of Bonnie and I am a better mother and emotionally healthy after my divorce. Thanks for having the courage to write this book and for the time you dedicate for helping thousands of women nationally.

Marie Rudisill s memoir, Ask Me Anything, is blunt, outspoken and charming, all at once. I immediately felt at home reading her story, even if I did cringe sometimes at some of her statements. Rudisill was also Truman Capote s aunt. Her stories of their friendship and later falling out were parts of Ask Me Anything that I particularly enjoyed. Rudisill and co-author, Marg are a wonderful writing team. The memoir reads beautifully, with Rudisill s voice coming forth loudly and clearly. While she s no longer with us, she s still very much here in spirit. I very much enjoyed getting to know Marie Rudisill through her memoir and highly recommend it. --Jack Magnus for Readers Favorite 5 Stars

The book has captured her real life personality along with her television persona, which adds color to the memoir. About the Author
Susan Marg was used to writing alone. Then she began working with Marie Rudisill on her memoir Ask Me Anything. Best known as The Fruitcake Lady from her appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Rudisill went mouth to mouth with anyone who asked her a question or sought help with a problem. She always had an answer on the tip of her tongue. Marg says, Marie planned the course we were to follow, and I was only too pleased to go where she led. She had a fascinating life. Marg s other books include Las Vegas Weddings: A Brief History, Celebrity Gossip, Everything Elvis, and the Complete Chapel Guide, published by HarperCollins and Hollywood or Bust: Movie Stars Dish on Following their Dreams, Making it Big, and Surviving in Tinseltown. Both books have won awards. Her interest in the entertainment business was honed during her years spent in advertising when knowing what was hot and who was "in" came with the territory. She is from Cleveland, Ohio, and she has a Midwesterner's easy-going, friendly disposition that even fifteen years living on the East Coast and working in the telecommunications industry couldn't quell. Susan now lives in San Diego with her husband, James C. Simmons, who is also a writer/historian. On her blog, "The More Things Change..." at susanmarg.com, Susan reflects on history, her story, true stories and fiction, considering the quirky, crazy things we once said and did compared to the quirky, crazy way we live today. She comments on gossip, too, what we talked about way back when and who captivates us currently, noting that the more things change the more they remain the same. What Susan says about herself: I'm a writer, a reader, a television watcher, a moviegoer, a theater attendee, and a museum visitor. I believe our stories make us who we are. What are yours?

A story well worth reading

I received this book as a gift from the author. Most of us knew of Marie Rudisill only from her colorful appearances as "The Fruitcake Lady" on Jay Leno's "The Tonight Show." Few realized then that she was also Truman Capote's aunt, and arguably the person who most strongly influenced his early literary career. In this delightful book, Susan Marg superbly recounts this remarkable woman's story and captures her no-nonsense approach to work, love, and life.

If you watch videos of her appearances on "The Tonight Show," don't be fooled by Marie's diminutive size and hayseed demeanor. With a mind as sharp as a Gillette Blue Blade, her larger-than-life personality commanded attention and respect. In a time when the best person for the job was always a man (a woman's place was in the home), she proved them all wrong. Marie Rudisill was a pioneer for generations of women that followed. This is a woman who matters.

Much more than a biography, Susan Marg presents Marie's philosophy of life as a winning trifecta: the sage wisdom of Ann Landers, the stoic dignity of Barbara Bush, and the rapier wit of Groucho Marx. Recounting Marie's experiences in her own words, Marg skillfully captures important life-lessons every caring parent should share with their child. And she does it with panache. Here's a sampling: manners matter, you are responsible for your success, bad things happen, you are not the center of the universe, be gracious to others, family is what counts most, and each day, life begins anew.

Marie Rudisill's was a life well-lived. Susan Marg's is a book well written. This is a story well worth reading.

Rudisill Tells All!

Marg has provided us with an in-depth character depiction of Marie Rudisill, aka The Fruitcake Lady. Through the author's pen and eyes, we get to know this diminutive package of contradictions. Marg offers us witticisms, dialect and insights into this feisty Southern belle who charmed talk show hosts and alternately sympathized with, or picked on her questioners. This is a delightful collection of tales shared by Rudisill, as told to Marg. With a skillful weaving of snippets, quotes and anecdotes, the reader sees the world change over the decades, just as Marie did.

Marg has done it once again! The author has allowed us to get inside of a celebrity's heart and head and made him/her human and lovable!

The Fruitcake Lady!

This lady is so funny! I have watched her on-line and saw her on the Jay Leno show as well. She keeps one in stitches because she says things we all would love to say and makes no apology about it. Each friend I have told about the Fruitcake Lady has thanked me because they watched her on TV or on line and had so much fun listening to her.
I understand she passed away. Thank heaven her videos are on line and saved because on a crummy day, just take some time and either read her book or watch her on line and you will have a smile on your face the rest of the day!

WHAT IS THE FOLLY

Have you ever noticed that it is not about Miss Marple, more like the stories revolve around her and then she figures out what is what. It always comes together and I always think I have it figured out -- but then I don't. It is an enjoyable read and a fast read. Good character development; interesting story line. And it is Miss Marple.
