About the Author
JAKE PERRINE began making bloops and bleeps with computers on an Apple II+ when he was 12. He has been an audio engineer for Real Networks and a mastering engineer at RFI/CD, and has taught professional audio production for over a decade at the Art Institute of Seattle. He has written and directed a rock opera entitled Vamp, releases his own solo electronic music under the name Spire, and is half of the electropop duo Bloom.

Brilliant overview of the impossibly endless learning you can delve into in Ableton 9! Mr. Perrine definitely knows his way around the kitchen and what spices to use while still writing a more user friendly, understandable approach to learning your way around Ableton. I only wish he would update it for the new features that came with 9.5 suite. But, then again, no one could have seen those awesome features coming! Cheers, Mr. Perrine! My only regret is that I bought the book online and missed out on the extra disc!

These books are great. I would start with Producing Music with Ableton Live 9 if you just spent 900 bucks and have no idea what you are doing. I'm getting my money out of my investment with just a few 20 dollar book.

A book for beginners and up.

This is a book for any level of loom bead work. She explains about a lot of things with different types of bead looms and techniques. I am self taught. I simply got a loom and followed the in box directions. I learned the hard way some of the things this book explains. I also learned a better way to do some techniques. There are diagrams and pictures to help with explanations. Most are in color, diagrams are detailed. Patterns present explain best type of loom and techniques to make. This is a book to make bead looming easier to understand and do. I have the Kindle version. This means I can enlarge diagrams for better visualization.

I found this book to be very informative. I especially liked the section on adding decorative edges to bead loomed bracelets and though I am not skilled (at all) with a needle and thread I followed the directions and added a nice edge on to a bracelet I had loomed that I just wasn't quite satisfied with and the edging made the difference. Lots of good ideas to try.

Even if the patterns are not exactly what you want (and why would you just copy things?) she shows you how to make it your own, just the way you want it. The illustrations are clear and easy to follow. So happy that I ordered this on Kindle, so I can take it with me when I travel

About the Author
Saxophonist Ben Britton is an active educator and performer in the U.S. His talents as a musician and composer were first nationally recognized in 2007 when he was selected to participate in a residency at the Kennedy Center as part of the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program. Following that, Britton recorded and performed with both world renown musicians like Chris Potter and Bobby Sanabria as well as rising stars from the younger generation. His most recent recording as a leader, an EP titled Children at Play, features Philadelphia based musicians and a unique brand of jazz with influences ranging from African music to modern rock. He also performed on the album Tito Puente Masterworks Live!!! which was nominated for best Latin Jazz Album at the 2011 Latin Grammys. In 2012, Britton participated in two national saxophone competitions placing as a finalist in the Detroit Jazz Festival National Saxophone Competition and winning the 1st Annual Charlie Parker Cutting Contest hosted by NPR's 12th Street Jump.
As a music educator Britton's endeavors are numerous and varied. He has held adjunct teaching positions at various colleges including University of Pennsylvania and Ursinus College. With his brother, John, he developed a curriculum for learning to improvise over odd time signatures including play-alongs of original compositions, recordings of solos by Chris Potter over those compositions, and transcriptions and solo analyses as well. The curriculum was released in tandem with their record, Uncertain Living, and can now be found on his website. Britton also writes a blog, Everything Saxophone, that features equipment reviews and various articles on saxophone technique and jazz improvisation.

A Big Step Forward For Saxophone Teaching

I have been a professional jazz saxophone player for 20 years, and taught jazz saxophone at the college level for five years. This book is the best book on saxophone tone production I have ever seen, for several reasons. First of all, there are many books out there that contain some really good exercises for learning to control the tone, such as overtone exercises, bending exercises, mouthpiece exercises, etc. But those books lack one important detail---the don't tell you *how* to do the exercises. Britton's book contains all those standard exercises, but he also gives thoughtful, lucid, specific (and correct!) descriptions of the kinds of movements your lips, jaw, tongue, and vocal tract will need to make in order to perform the exercises given. For example, when he talks about bending exercises (which he rightly calls "tongue bends"), he makes the insightful comment that the front of the tongue should stay up while the back drops down to change the pitch. This kind of instruction is invaluable to a student who, swimming in an ocean of exercises, needs not only to be told what exercises to work on, but *how* to do them in the first place.

I would recommend this book to any saxophone student who wishes to cultivate a mature, focused tone. Saxophone teachers, this should be required reading for your students. I wish I could have read this book when I was coming along. This book, along with David Liebman's book "Developing a Personal Saxophone Tone" are the best books on tone production.

A good read!

I'm playing sax for 10 years and bought this read when I was in the middle of changing my embochure and tongue position. The tips in the book helped me a lot with the understanding of mondern sound developpement. I bought the ebook-version and read it on my smartphone. It's not a large book but clear and concise. Read it in 2 days and was ready to go change my sound :)

Foundation for solid sound

I've been taking alto lessons for two years as an adult. Working through method books, but no detailed explanation or exercises to develop a strong sound. This book lays is out, details how things fit together, has exercises to demonstrate and to develop the ideas. I haven't seen or heard this anywhere else. Criticism and the narcissist... and its consequences.

You may have a narcissist in your life who is a parent, child, or spouse. You may work with one (or many). You may be in a position in which you are unable to permanently remove yourself. It is good to learn what triggers this abnormal rage in a narcissist, to recognize the signs that such an event has occurred, learn how to avoid it, and what to do once the trigger has erupted.

Normal people get upset, angry. Narcissists carry an unending fury, simmering just below the surface. They cannot handle criticism of ANY sort (things which may not seem like criticism to normal people). This book will explain what it is, what causes it, how to deal with it, and how to escape it.

Eye opening

I have read several books from this author and they have given me pieces to the puzzle that I had not figured out on my own. These books have gone a long way in helping me accept it was never my fault. I very much appreciate the fact that it comes from a narcissist and the honesty is very refreshing after years of lies.

FERDINAND JONES is the Director Emeritus of Psychological Services and Professor of Psychology at Brown University. Professor Jones has written extensively in the field of psychology, and in the last several years has been lecturing and writing about the meaning of jazz in African-American life.

ARTHUR C. JONES is Senior Clinical Professor of Psychology at the University of Denver and a member of the Core Faculty of the Union Institute Graduate School. Among his earlier publications is Wade in the Water: The Wisdom of the Spirituals (1993).

Machinery Matters Worth the Read

My background is not in mechanical equipment yet I spend time in the packaging area of our manufacturing facility. With my lack of packaging experience, I found this book to be one of the most useful, practical books I've read in a long time. The articles helped me understand many of the downtime issues I observe daily. We package liquids, powders and granules in boxes, bags and jugs and the book offered tips on all. I am recommending this book to my colleagues.
