“Nice Refresher Of The Dalai Lama’s Message”

How good is it to pick up the Dalai Lama’s latest musings on ethics being more important than religion’ for free on kindle?
For those who know the Dalai Lama’s themes, this short book provides a refresher or for those new to the Dalai Lama this provides an approachable introduction.
The baseline message is there. Co-operation is more constructive than competition. Compassion and love is more effective than more negative emotions.
This book has a focus on our modern wars. Islam is not mentioned once in the book but surely is a lot of what he refers to. Another key theme which he is much stronger on these days is environmentalism. For me, it’s notable in a book written by him about ethics is that he does not renew his appraisal of the psychology industry in the West. Amazingly, he still sees potential for him being returned to China and he points to the reunification of Europe to make this point.
This is a short and effective piece of communication. Five Stars.

pragmatic guidance

I love the Dalai Lama's approach to enlightenment through joy so I appreciate his philosophy. The nice thing about this book is the recognition by a major religious leader that religion too often falls short of serving our most common needs and that a secular set of ethics might be a more appropriate tool set. It's not easy for a religious leader to admit that their religion is not the end all be all for everyone, especially considering everyone thinks their religion is the true answer to all our problems.

For those interested in both ethics and the perspective of the Dalai Lama this book is a short, interesting Q&A with His Holiness. Don't expect a deep discussion of what ethic are - or are not. The title says it all: His Holiness states ethics is more important than religion. Coming from one of the world's most influential religious leaders, that says a lot.
